Different types of private jets serve various purposes regarding individuals’ or organizations’ preferences and needs. Very light jets (VLJs) or compact, lightweight jets are small, cost-effective private jets that are easy to maintain. They can board 4 to 7 people and are suitable for short travel of up to three hours. But they cannot accommodate any cabinet attendants. Some examples of VLJs are the Embraer Phenom 100 and the HondaJet HA-420.

Executive liners are commercial airplanes altered for business or personal travel. They feature luxurious and custom interiors, roomy private suites, en-suite bathrooms, and an onboard cocktail bar. In addition, executive liners can comfortably board 19–48 passengers while they experience first-class luxury. The executive liner jets include the Airbus ACJ380 and Boeing B747–8.

Superlight jets are large-sized private jets with a maximum seating of 9 to 11 passengers. They can fly at remote airstrips or small airports, giving individuals who prefer to escape the crowds at busy airports a different means of travel. Some notable examples of ultralight jets include the Gulfstream G100 and Embraer Phenom 300.
