Turboprop Planes Increase in Popularity among Private Jet Users
The co-founder of Jets.com, Edgar Alacan helped grow the company from a three-man startup to an operation with more than 50 employees. Edgar Alacan and his team maintain a full fleet of light, mid-size, super, heavy, and VLJ jets that individuals can use for custom-tailored trips. In addition, Jets.com offers two different turboprop jets, the King Air and the Pilatus.
While propeller-based aircraft may seem old fashioned, demand for turboprop planes increased by 8 percent in 2017. ARGUS TRAQpak reports that more time was spent on turboprops than light or large jets. Altogether, these planes accounted for 27 percent of all business aviation flight hours last year.
The growth in popularity of turboprop planes likely relates to both price and access. Often, turboprops are the cheaper option when compared to other jets because they can carry more passengers than most light and mid-size options. In terms of accessibility, turboprops can often access smaller airports that jets carrying a similar number of passengers cannot access. This means that people can get closer to their ultimate destination and ultimately save a significant amount of time.
