The co-founder of Jets.com, Edgar Alacan oversees daily operations and the sales department of the private jet charter company. Edgar Alacan also serves as a board member for Pietro’s Fight, a nonprofit organization that raises money to fund research into and educate the public about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Approximately 12,000 children and young adults in the United States live with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a degenerative genetic disorder that involves a progressive loss of muscle strength and function. Symptoms of the disease typically present when children are one to three years old.
Founded by Dayna and Manni Scarso after their son Pietro’s diagnosis, Pietro’s Fight raises money through its annual Fight Night, a dinner and dance fundraiser. To date, Pietro’s Fight has raised nearly $350,000, all of which has gone directly toward research for a cure. Thanks to organizations such as Pietro’s Fight, treatment protocols including gene therapies have extended DMD life expectancy into adulthood.
