Fishing Lake Como in Cayuga County, New Jersey

A relatively small lake in Cayuga County, New Jersey, Lake Como has “very abundant rooted aquatic vegetation,” according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. This environment supports a broad range of fish species including largemouth and rock bass, channel catfish, black crappie, brown bullhead, chain pickerel, pumpkinseed sunfish, and yellow and white perch. Lake Como is also stocked with about 200 tiger musky each year.

Lake Como makes it easy for fishing enthusiasts of all skill levels to fish directly from its banks. In the winter, it is a common local ice fishing destination.

A popular recreational fishing spot, Lake Como is home to the annual Kids Go Fish Day, which challenges young people to compete for the biggest and best catches. In the summer of 2023, the online neighborhood news publication TAP into Belmar/Lake Como reported that fish in Lake Como are “showing up in pretty large sizes.”
